Day 2: New York to Doha

It’s hard to believe that in a 24 hour period we only spent time in New York and Doha. I guess I can believe it when I think about the fact that we flew over 8,000 miles in those 24 hours. This morning’s Liturgy of the hours had an intention which could/should be the mission/purpose of our trip/life. “May we be so dedicated to the service of others,

that the whole human family may become a pleasing sacrifice in your honor.”

As I was sitting in the JFK airport I wondered how I would find something worthwhile posting in what seemed to be an uneventful day. (If you don’t know me my wife claims I have ADHD). It only took a couple of hours for God to send a messenger. A friendly man from Uganda approached us and began talking with us. After familiarizing ourselves with each other I found the opportunity to get his insights as to how we could truly help the people of Uganda. He shared what he felt were the greatest needs of God‘s children on the other side of the planet from us Nebraskans. He told us of the basic needs of access to water, computers and reading materials in schools, and medical facilities. He offered insights into sustainable farming that we hope to learn more about on our trip. The government may provide training for Ugandans in rural areas on sound traditional farming practices but they don’t provide seeds, tools, or pesticides. Any seed dealers reading this? One last area I don’t think I ever would have considered… I’m going to leave you hanging for the next post… time to get some sleep. Angel of God my guardian dear….
